The price keeps rising! The highest price is 9800 USD! Another wave of price increase notices for July is coming...

In recent months, affected by a series of events such as the ongoing situation in the Red Sea, "Scramble for export", and shipowners raising prices, shipping prices have continued to rise. The latest Shanghai Export Containerized Freight Index (SCFI) rose by 194.35 points to 3379.22 points, a new high since late August 2022, and has risen for ten consecutive weeks.

Due to tight shipping capacity and the arrival of the peak season, shipping companies have announced freight rate increases.

Following MSK, Hapag-Lloyd, CMA CGM and others announcing freight rate adjustment plans to levy FAK, PSS, etc., MSC, MSK and CMA CGM have recently released a new round of freight rate adjustment notices for July, involving the US and Europe-Mediterranean routes.

MSC

MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company has announced new FAK rates in US dollars, effective from July 1, 2024, but no later than July 14, 2024, from all Asian ports (including Japan, South Korea and Southeast Asia) to Europe, unless otherwise stated.

Compared with the previously released Nordic FAK in May, the highest has more than doubled. Details are as follows:

MSK

Prior to this, Maersk also issued a customer announcement, announcing an increase in FAK rates from major Asian ports to multiple destinations in Europe, up to US$9,400/FEU.

This adjustment will officially take effect on July 1 and will be valid until further notice (but no later than December 31, 2024).

MSK will also implement a peak season surcharge PSS on or after July 7, 2024 until further notice. The charge is USD 1,000 per 20-foot dry container and USD 2,000 per 40-foot dry container/high container and 45-foot dry container. Details are as follows:

On June 19, MSK announced that it will levy a peak season surcharge PSS from Chinese ports to Bangladesh starting July 1, 2024. Details are as follows:

CMA CGM

On June 20, CMA CGM announced that starting from July 1, 2024 (bill of lading date), the rate from China to West Africa will be adjusted to USD 500/TEU. Details are as follows:

On the same day, CMA CGM also announced that it would impose a port congestion surcharge (PCS) to Dammam, Saudi Arabia, starting from June 20, with a charge of USD 300/TEU and USD 600/FEU. Details are as follows:

Please inquire with the corresponding shipping company for specific collection information. Other shipping companies may also take similar measures to increase freight rates.

At present, the export shipping price changes every day. Because the space and containers are in short supply, the space reserved by freight forwarding companies from shipping companies is often cancelled; foreign trade companies may face a backlog of goods and be unable to deliver on time, increasing their risk of default. Even goods with low profits may lose money if the freight rate increases.

Once again, remind cargo owners and freight forwarders to pay close attention to the notification of shipping companies and make shipping plans in advance!
